NCT 127 is entering a new era, and they’re doing it loud. On Tuesday, August 11, the group released the track video for “Piñata,” the first musical preview of their upcoming seventh studio album “BLINGY,” out August 24 through SM Entertainment and Virgin Music Group. It’s also the first time fans are hearing new music from the group as a five-member act.
“Piñata” leans into a genre mashup that’s become something of a signature for NCT: electric guitar riffs, a funky bassline, and breakbeat-driven drums collide with hip-hop rap sections and a full guitar solo. The lyrics lean into confidence and spectacle, comparing every live performance to the chaotic thrill of breaking open a piñata. The accompanying video drops the group into a gritty, late-night Seoul, casting members as streetwise fixers weaving through the city, a stylistic choice built for choreography and stage energy rather than a linear storyline.
“BLINGY” marks a genuine turning point for the group. It’s their first full-length release since 2024’s “WALK,” and their first as a lineup of five: Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Jaehyun, and Haechan. Doyoung and Jungwoo remain on hiatus while completing mandatory military service, a common pause point for K-pop acts in South Korea, while former member Mark departed the group entirely in April. The nine-track album arrives as part of NCT’s broader 10th-anniversary celebration since debuting in 2016, with promotional material describing “BLINGY” as a project that looks back on the group’s journey while opening a new chapter.
The rollout has been methodical. NCT 127 built anticipation with trailers, teaser images, and outdoor ads across multiple cities before the “Piñata” track video landed. A highlight medley and a music video teaser for the title track “Blingy” are still to come before the full album release. The group will also headline KCON LA 2026 on August 14, giving international fans an early live preview of the new material days before it’s available on streaming platforms. A day after the album drops, NCT 127 hosts its official comeback live party at Seoul’s KINTEX Exhibition Center, where the full nine-track project will be performed live for the first time.
That kind of rollout scale isn’t unusual for a group with NCT 127’s track record. Since debuting, they’ve landed a string of top 10 entries on the Billboard 200, including “Sticker: The 3rd Album,” alongside hits like “Cherry Bomb,” “Kick It,” and “Fact Check” that built their reputation for genre experimentation inside K-pop‘s increasingly crowded field. What makes “BLINGY” different is the stakes attached to it: it’s the first real test of how the group’s sound and stage presence translate with a smaller lineup, and an early signal of what the next decade of NCT 127 might sound like.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see how “Piñata” fits into the bigger picture. With the KCON LA performance days away and the full album dropping August 24, NCT 127 is treating this comeback less like a routine release and more like a statement about where the group goes from here.
