Maddie, Helen, and Dana Sue Celebrate "Old Friends" in "Sweet Magnolias" Season 3 Trailer: Watch

JoAnna Garcia Swisher can't wait for fans to see what "Sweet Magnolias" season three has in store. "I'm ready for it to come out. I know everyone else feels that same way," she recently told POPSUGAR, "and I actually know what happens, so I'm ready for everyone to enjoy it. It's just a great season."

Swisher plays Maddie Townsend on the show, which follows three best friends — Maddie, Helen Decatur (Heather Headley), and Dana Sue Sullivan (Brooke Elliott) — as they navigate relationships, teenage kids, and all of life's ups and downs. Swisher said season three, which premieres on July 20, will focus even more closely on the characters' friendships.

"I think that the dust is settling in Serenity, but there's still all of these incredible relationships and all this love," she said, adding that the season will look "a little bit deeper into our friendships and the Magnolias' friendships."

For Maddie, season three will be about adjusting to a brand-new reality. "I think for my character, she's starting to see the light after the divorce, and that journey is a little bit uncomfortable, but I think by the end of the season, you start to see that the future is bright for Maddie," Swisher shared.

In the trailer, released June 30, we get a hint at what's to come. "New relationships and new challenges are good for the soul," Maddie reflects in a voiceover. Helen then tells the girls as they gather and enjoy bonding time, "This is the beauty of old friends, you meet me wherever I need you."

Season three will find the characters dealing with the fallout of the fight from the season two finale while trying to do the best they can for themselves and their community. "Following the brawl at Sullivan's, Maddie wrestles with the best way to help Cal and works to clear her own emotional path," the official synopsis says. "Helen faces difficult decisions about the men in her life. And Dana Sue searches for a way to use Miss Frances' check to help the community, without upending her family. The identity of the tire slasher sends shockwaves through Serenity, the recall causes unexpected consequences, and there are romantic surprises in every generation."

"Throughout the season, the ladies tackle these problems — and all the complications they cause — with their trademark warmth, humor, and devotion to each other and those they love," it adds. "And margaritas."

"Sweet Magnolias" Season 3 Cast

Maddie Townsend (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher) is a single mother of three boys who runs a successful bakery in Serenity, South Carolina. She is fiercely loyal to her friends and family, and she always puts others before herself.

Dana Sue Sullivan (played by Brooke Elliott) is a chef and owner of a restaurant in Serenity. She is a strong and independent woman who is not afraid to speak her mind. She is also a single mother of one daughter.

Helen Decatur (played by Heather Headley) is a lawyer and a single mother of one son. She is intelligent and compassionate, and she is always willing to help others. She is also a close friend of Maddie and Dana Sue.

Bill Townsend (played by Chris Klein) is Maddie's ex-husband and the father of their three sons. He is a successful businessman, but he can also be arrogant and controlling.

Kyle Townsend (played by Logan Allen) is Maddie and Bill's oldest son. He is a talented baseball player who is trying to decide where to go to college.

Annie Sullivan (played by Anneliese Judge) is Dana Sue's daughter. She is a talented photographer who is struggling to find her place in the world.

Ty Townsend (played by Carson Rowland) is Maddie and Bill's middle son. He is a kind and gentle soul who loves to make people laugh.

Cal Maddox (played by Justin Bruening) is a former professional baseball player who is now the coach of Kyle's baseball team. He is a charming and mysterious man who seems to have a past that he is hiding.

Erik Whitley (played by Dion Johnstone) is a doctor who is dating Helen. He is kind and compassionate, and he seems to be a good match for Helen.

Ronnie Sullivan (played by Brandon Quinn) is Dana Sue's childhood friend and business partner. He is a charming and handsome man, but he can also be impulsive and reckless.

Noreen Fitzgibbons (played by Jamie Lynn Spears) is Bill's pregnant mistress. She is a young and ambitious woman who is determined to win Bill over.

Katie Townsend (played by Ella Grace Helton) is Maddie and Bill's youngest daughter. She is a sweet and innocent child who is still trying to understand the world around her.

Charles Perkin (played by Jermaine Rivers) is a new character who is introduced in season 3. He is a mysterious man who seems to have a connection to Dana Sue's past.

Jimmy (played by Jon Briddell) is a new character who is introduced in season 3. He is a charming and handsome man who seems to be interested in Dana Sue.
